Gentle Tips for Coping with Pet Loss
Grief looks different for everyone. Here are some kind ways to honour your feelings and your pet’s memory:
- Allow yourself to grieve: Cry, feel angry, or sit in silence — all emotions are valid. There is no “right” timeline for healing.
- Create a small memorial: Light a candle, plant a flower, frame a favourite photo, or make a memory box with their collar and toys.
- Share memories: Talk about your pet with people who understand, or write letters to them. Many find comfort in this.
- Look after your body: Try to eat, rest, and take short walks even when it feels hard. Grief affects us physically too.
- Honour their legacy: Donate to a rescue, volunteer, or support other pet parents — just as we do here in Luna’s name.
- When grief waves hit: Breathe slowly and remind yourself “This feeling is love with nowhere to go.” It will pass.
Your pet’s love stays with you forever. You gave them a beautiful life, and they knew it.
